At The Acorn Pantry Inc., we’re NUTS about saving you money on groceries and everyday items!
The Acorn’s aim is to reduce the financial stresses facing our community, and support people affected by higher costs of living and food insecurity. Our plan is simple. If we can provide groceries, fruit and vegetables, meats and bread products at reduced prices, this leaves more money in our community’s pockets for fuel, bills, medications, and other necessities.
The Acorn Pantry Inc is a registered charity and not-for-profit incorporated association. It’s our small team of volunteers who collect, prepare, display our products, and are ready to serve you at our Yamanto and Redbank Plains outlets.
You do not need to hold any form of concession card to shop at The Acorn Pantry Inc.

Where does the food come from?
The Acorn Pantry Inc sources food and household goods from excess food distributors and food recovery networks such as Food Bank Qld and Fareshare. We also occasionally receive donations from the private sector.
Our shelf prices and bulk prices.
The Acorn Pantry Inc aims to offer you a reprieve from the cost of living and try our best to keep our prices around 30-50% that of recommended retail pricing. We try our best, but sometimes our pricing is affected by what we are charged for the product.
The amount and type of stock on our shelves is dictated by product donations and excess stock availability, so no orders can be placed for specific items, but we will try our best to source what your family needs.
Use by, best before, and optimum practices for food safety.
While the majority of our food and products are ‘in date’, we do take advantage of the reduced prices we can bring to you when a product passes its ‘best before’ date.
A ‘best before’ date on a packaged food means that you can still eat it after that date but it may have lost some nutrition or quality.
Not surprisingly, a ‘use by’ date means exactly that: you must use or freeze the food by that date for optimum taste, nutrition, and safety.
Please be assured that frozen meats displaying ‘expired’ use by dates have been frozen before their expiry date.
Depending on the type of meat, freezer storage life times vary between 2 – 12 months from their labelled expiry date.
Please ask us for a cold food storage chart for optimal storage information, or search freezer storage life for your own peace of mind.
